Substrate requirements

  • Concrete floated flat, properly poker-vibrated; surface still wet before troweling, no standing water
  • Concrete grade and properties suited to the intended use
  • Screeded flat to the correct level

Step-by-step procedure

  1. 1

    Pour concrete

    Concrete grade and slump as required; poker-vibrate; screed flat to the correct level.

    Preliminary floating

    After 2–3 hours (per climate), float the surface to prepare for the dry-shake.

  3. 3

    Broadcast the first HardRock coat & float

    Broadcast the first coat at about 2/3 of the total selected for the duty class. When HardRock absorbs moisture and darkens, float it; float near walls, columns and doors first; slow speed, low blade angle.

    Broadcast the second coat & float

    Right after floating the first coat, broadcast the second coat onto the still-damp surface (more where thin) and float again.

    Finish floating

    When the surface has hardened (gained strength), power-trowel at high speed with tilted blades to create a smooth, glossy finish.

    Cure

    Immediately cure and cover the surface against sun to prevent early water loss; use BestCure to avoid staining and surface crazing.

Total consumption

Under the HardRock 345 TDS: 3.0–3.5 kg/m² for pedestrian duty, 4.0–4.5 kg/m² for medium duty and 5.0–5.5 kg/m² for heavy duty; broadcast in 2 passes, the first about 2/3 of the total.

How much HardRock is needed?

3.0–3.5 kg/m² for pedestrian duty, 4.0–4.5 kg/m² for medium duty and 5.0–5.5 kg/m² for heavy duty; define the duty class before work.

Does the hardened floor need curing?

Yes. Cure immediately after floating (use BestCure) and shade against sun to prevent early water loss, staining and surface crazing.
