Substrate requirements

  • Check concrete strength, member thickness, existing reinforcement locations and cracking against the anchor design
  • The drilled hole must be sound, dry and free of contamination
  • The rebar to be installed must be cleaned thoroughly, free of rust, dust or other contaminants
  • An approved design/method defines hole diameter, embedment, edge distances, loads and acceptance sequence

Step-by-step procedure

  1. 1

    Drill the dowel hole

    Locate existing reinforcement and services before drilling. Drill the approved diameter, angle and embedment; do not default to a 10–12-bar-diameter rule for every load and substrate.

    Clean the hole

    Blow or vacuum the hole for initial cleaning, then use a brush to remove remaining dust, and blow or vacuum once more to ensure the hole is completely clean.

    Mix BestBond EP751

    Weigh components A:B = 2:1 by weight and mix at 300 – 400 rpm for at least 3 minutes until homogeneous. Use within the TDS working time at an ambient temperature of +15°C to +35°C.

    Inject the adhesive

    Inject from the bottom outward to avoid air pockets. Calculate resin from the approved hole and bar geometry with a waste allowance; do not rely on a generic holes-per-kilogram figure.

    Insert the rebar

    Slowly insert the rebar while rotating it in a spiral motion for easier placement. Ensure that when the rebar reaches the bottom, adhesive overflows evenly at the mouth; if not, withdraw the rebar, re-inject and re-insert.

Total consumption

Consumption is calculated from the annular volume between hole and anchor, embedment, hole count and waste. Detailed load/rate values belong to the approved design and require acceptance or pull testing where specified.

Do not load or pull-test against a generic time. Follow the TDS at actual temperature, the anchor design and the approved test/inspection plan; EP751 mechanical properties are published after 7 days of curing at 30°C.
