BestCoaltar EP720 is a protective and waterproof coating, durable, tear resistant, chemical and erosion resistance, effective protection for concrete and steel structures. BestCoaltar EP720 is a two-component compound made from special epoxy resin combined with refined coal tar and inert silicate based aggregate. BestCoaltar EP720 conforms to BS 5493: KF 3 B.

Chemical resistanceBestCoaltar EP720 is resistant to water, seawater, detergents, diluted acids and alkalis, neutral salts, grease, fuels and many other chemicals. Without algae and microorganisms sticking. Not stable under prolonged contact with phenols, oxidizing acids, and hydrocarbon chloride.

Applications

Instruction of construction:

Surface preparation:

  • The concrete or metal surface has to be completely dry, andsolid without any grease, dirt, moss, mold, etc. The bad adhesion or old material must be completely removed.
  • Concrete surface: Compressive strength:  ≥ 20 MPa, Tensile strength: 1.5 MPa. The surface has to be flat, solid, and dry, maximum moisture is 4% ( if BestPrimer EP703 is not used).
  • For strong absorbent concrete surfaces or high gloss steel surfaces, must apply BestPrimer EP701 before applying BestCoaltar EP720.

Mixing:

  • Use an electric mixer or slow-speed pneumatic (400 ÷ 500 cycles/min) to mix Component A well before pouring all the Component B into Component A. Continue mixing really well and control the mixing paddle up and down several times to turn the mixture until homogeneous (Mixing time 3 ÷ 5 min).
  • When applying the first coat on the concrete surface, dilute by about 3 to 5% Thinner SC-01 (by weight) in order to increase penetration into the material surface.

Construction:

  • Use a brush, short-spike roller, or pressure nozzle to evenly distribute the mixture over the entire surface.
  • When applying the second layer, it should be perpendicular to the first layer.
  • The pending time for the next two coats can be 24 hours to 3 days, depending on the environment’s condition and the temperature, it’s advised to monitor the status of the actual curing time of materials to decide when will be the next appropriate coat.
  • Within 24 hours from the time of application, the surface must avoid direct contact with rainwater or any mechanical force.

Cleaning:  

  • Use a dry cloth or soft paper to clean equipment, and instruments before using Thinner SC01 to wash finally.

Safety:

  • Two components are dangerous, flammable, and allergic when contacting directly to the skin.
  • PPEs must be worn. If gushing out eyes, noses, and mouth, must be washed with fresh water before taking to the nearest hospital.
  • Should ventilate the construction area with a ventilation fan.  
  • Unconditional, NO place product or constructing area contact directly to flame or heat genetic source.
  • Pouring residual products in regulation place of local government to ensure no effect on the environment.

Application instruction

SURFACE PREPARATION:

  • Concrete or steel surfaces must be dry, sound, and free from oil, grease, dust, rust, moss, algae, mold, and other contaminants. All weakly bonded layers or old materials must be completely removed.

  • Concrete Surface:

  • - Compressive strength: ≥ 20 MPa

  • - Tensile strength: ≥ 1.5 MPa

  • - The surface must be flat, dense, and dry.

  • - Maximum allowable moisture content for application: 4% (if the moisture barrier primer BestPrimer EP703 is not used).

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Mixing:

  • Use a slow-speed electric or pneumatic mixer (400 ÷ 500 rpm) to thoroughly mix Component A before adding the entire Component B into Component A.

  • Continue mixing thoroughly while moving the mixing paddle up and down several times to ensure a homogeneous mixture is achieved (mixing time: approximately 3 ÷ 5 minutes).

  • For the first coat applied on concrete surfaces, it is recommended to dilute the mixture with approximately 3 ÷ 5% Thinner SC-01 (by weight) to improve deep penetration into the substrate.

Application:

  • Use a brush, short-nap roller, or airless spray equipment to evenly distribute the material over the entire treatment surface.

  • When applying the second coat, it is recommended to apply in a direction perpendicular to the first coat.

  • The waiting time between coats may range from 24 hours to 3 days, depending on ambient conditions and surrounding temperature. The actual curing condition of the material should be monitored to determine the appropriate timing for the next coat application.

  • Within 24 hours after application, avoid exposing the material to rainwater or mechanical impact.

CLEANING:

  • Use a dry cloth or soft paper to preliminarily wipe tools and equipment before using Thinner SC01 for final cleaning.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Both components are classified as hazardous, flammable, and may cause allergic reactions upon direct skin contact.

  • Protective gloves, masks, and safety goggles must be worn during application.

  • In case of contact with eyes, nose, or mouth, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water several times before seeking medical attention at the nearest healthcare facility for timely and proper treatment.

  • The application area should be properly ventilated using suitable ventilation fans.

  • Keep the product and application area away from open flames and all heat sources.

  • Dispose of excess product in accordance with local regulations to avoid environmental contamination.
